![]() ![]() Reach made me feel weak by how powerful the Covenant felt. ODST didn't have overshields TECHNICALLY, but it had a regenerating health mechanic that was just overshields in disguise. Reach made me feel far weaker than ODST did despite being a spartan. Aside from how the game story conflicts with the books' Reach lore, I think it is very grounded and appropriately bleak. The characters although sparsely written, I think are excellently and deliberately written. Suffice it to say, Reach took everything I liked about ODST and did it better. I just turned 10 and was in the height of edgy phase. Weaker than 3 and much weaker than 2 but definitely deeper than CE.Īlong comes Halo: Reach. The writing was never very good in my opinion. My older sister's friend gave me his copy of Halo 3 (the same one I own today), and I played that and loved it. I played Firefight religiously when I went to his house. Played it at my friend's house and I could NOT get enough. If you don't like being weaker, don't like open worlds and don't like the "following clues" thing and prefer just a straight-up linear FPS experience then I can imagine that ODST is fine as it is for you.ĭon't hate me, please. ![]() So basically: A good game with phenominal atmosphere and a great concept, but I think it's also a game that could've been even better if the creators had been willing to take a little bit more of a risk and push their concept a (ODST rather than Spartan, stealth, open world, being a detective, etc.) a little bit further. ![]() ¨Perfect to make you feel like a lone ODST wandering through a destroyed city searching for clues about your friends. The music, the weather effects, the lighting, everything. What ODST 100% got right though, especially in the hub world, is the atmosphere. Would've been nice if you had to think more about how to find the clues or put them together or something, imo. As it is you mainly find a bunch of places where you just click to move on. I think the actual "being the detective" part could've been fleshed out a bit more. That would've made you have to hide from search lights and stuff. One thing I really wish they'd done with the "hub world" is had the phantoms overhead actually actively looking for you and if they spotted you they would dump down a bunch of troops. Probably because I just really like the concept of this sort of "open world." Which is cool and all, but I really just wish it had been more than that. As it is the hub world is mainly there for you to have a bit of calm between regular FPS missions. And while I really liked the hub world, I think they missed the chance to make it more important and to fill it up a bit more. That concept I thought was very exciting. I also really like the concept of the "hub world." Kind of an open world area in a Halo city. Personally, I think that's a pity because this game offered a very unique chance to allow you to experience the Halo universe in a new way. I think ODST should've been more stealth-focused than it was, but they were unwilling to deviate too much from Halo's basic FPS formula here, I suspect. I would've really liked them to go even further with nerfing you. But I think that, while they nerfed you a little bit, they still made you too powerfu. I really liked that you were just an ODST rather than a Spartan, it was a new way to experience the world of Halo. In threads with a vague title and Rumor/Leak flair detailed outline on acceptable titlesĪ fun game with a great concept that I think, unfortunately, wasn't taken far enough.Lore may be freely discussed three months past release.
